Hey, I've been trying to post some of my photos to show off say the sharpness of a lens, but Photobucket screws it all up and the photo's end up looking quite soft in comparison to other photo's i've seen on here.

Is there any site that will not compress the heck out of uploaded photos and let you embed them in this forum? All while retaining the sharpness of the photo.

Try uploading directly to here.. When doing this it's important to only resize once..

Are you doing the resizing, or is photobucket?

Well that may be the problem, I usually just output to a small size jpeg, and then photobucket would resize to the right pixel count.

Resize it, sharpen as needed, THEN post it to photobucket.

Google "AbsoluteSharpeningWeb"

It's a neat script for Photoshop that handles resizing/sharpening and (optionally) frames.

It could be that PhotoBucket has resized? From their support:

Before uploading your images to your Photobucket account, choose either a
display or file size that is equal to or larger than that of your images. You
can do this by clicking on the 'Uploading Options' link in your upload panel
and then on the radio button next to your preferred size. If an option is
greyed out, this means the option is not available for your Photobucket
account type. Selecting a size larger than your images will prevent further
resizing upon upload and help expedite the upload process. To make the changes
permanent, you must upload at least one image from the upload panel. This is
important for Pro users using FTP or anyone using the Windows XP Publisher. If
you choose to use the file size options, the file size of the original image
will take precedence over the the display size and any display size is
accepted as long as the file size is less than your choice in the 'Uploading
Options'.

I always click on the image to get the 100% size that I've uploaded, & then use that URL for display.

I use photobucket all the time to share shots here and I think that I have never had a complaint that shot could be sharper.

I do my normal post and because I only use Photobucket for a web site sharing host I upload the shot in the size I wish to share, usually 1024 pixels on the long side or about 850 in height if vertical. PB never then resizes my images when I post a link, like those below to indicate the level of detail I expect to be sharing.
