I think is a positive thing someone of insect macro community to have the opportunity to advertise the hobby of insect photography to a large audience. A great deal of information in the 1:45 minutes of interview, talked fast but clear.
Insect photos are not a big business and I don't know about anyone making real money from them, is a truly enthusiast environment with no objective parameters to classify one work above others. Is a great thing because everyone share setups and insect macro techniques, Thomas Shahan shared his technique and equipment with us and not declared himself better than other macro mates, I'm glad to see him talking about it.
Is very different of a car race where someone clearly end in first place someone clearly in second and so on.
I agree all have different style and his photos excell in good lighting and a worth effort to find the more beauty insects and shoot them in a environment wich do justice to beauty.
The only flag about the interview, most funny than bad, is that I wondered how much % of the NBC audience understanded the sentence " a prime on backwards extension tubes...."
