I think only non-PP images should be allowed. It is about lenses, right?

Agreed. I have no PP to confess of there.

I suppose that depends on your philosophy on what "taking a picture" entails.

The 70-200 f/4L IS comes to mind for me. I've had this lens for nearly three years now, and here are one of the first 'test' shots I took with it back then. Taken at f/4 with a 400D.

few thoughts:

1 - it is not just about the lens. The sensor you strap your lens to will have a big factor as well. Certain Canon cameras have stronger AA filters or different resolutions than other cameras. That can play a big factor in the perceived sharpness.

2 - What constitutes PP? If I slide the sharpness and contrast sliders over a bit in DPP when outputting from RAW? Is resizing PP? Is changing the WB or exposure?

3 - If you can process away the differences between a sharp lens and a softer one, then it kind of makes it useless to pay for sharp ones right? It should be apparent that the 200L is better than the 55-250 IS even if you sharpen both.

4 - Why would someone not want their images to look as good as possible. I don't have ANY shots output at sharpness 0 because they would all look softer than my default of 5, which I have determined as the sweet spot for my camera.

I thought we were in the lens section. There is a seperate place for PP issues and questions and yet another area for showing pix. Guess I just assumed it was about lenses.

As I said though, sharpness is also directly influenced by the sensor resolution and AA filter (or film grain) . So how can you ever just demonstrate a lens? Some cameras like the 40D have been noted to have soft default output where others require almost no sharpening.

So what constitues an image without any post processing? Set all the sliders to 0 in DPP, pick nuetral and output the RAW?

Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro at f/4. Probably not THE sharpest but ONE OF THE sharpests.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Tkbslc- you say there is no way to demonstrate a lens? Odd.
