I went hiking yesterday at Hawk Mountain in Kempton PA. The view was amazing but I only saw one hawk, a red tail. I did however see a porcupine not far from the trail and managed to get a few quick pictures as it made a hasty exit. Since it was far away the photos are heavily cropped, they were taken handheld and at max zoom (300)... enough excuses here they are :)

2.) A little oof but I was trying to sneak a bit closer, and it was trying to sneak a bit further.

3.) For being so chubby looking, he/she climbed the tree like a pro!

4.) Here's the view from the top of the mountain.

Love these pics... two and three are my choice of the set... the panorama pic is real neat too... Some sharpening might help? how about cloning the branch out of 1? Possible?

Any chance you would have been able to capture one of the hawks in flight? Which lens for birds did you take along?

Thank you guys!

I thought about cloning the branch out too. I might try it one night when Im really bored as its going to be tedious with all of those quills. Just my luck there had to be bushes and branches all over the ground, that was the best thing I could do, to get his head/face unobstructed.

I did see one hawk in flight but my pictures are extremely poor. I was using my Sigma 70-300 but I desperately needed more reach. Maybe a TC or a longer prime. One can dream.

Really bad, I know. I needed an air traffic controller to direct him to soar in closer to the cliff I was on.

Those could be some real nice shots except for the watermarks and the size . Maybe if you reduce the size or lighten the watermarks and size them bigger they would be better . Other than that i know they can be great shots .

Nice shots of this guy. I don't think I have ever seen one in the wild, just the damage they do to the trees. :)

Beautiful shots...beautiful country. I love PA. I agree though that the water marks should be lightened....they grab one's eye before the actual subject.
