Out of curiosity, anybody actually use one of these, 6" Hot Shoe Beauty Dish (external link)?
Looks similar to one of those Interfit Strobies dish but was wondering about spending the coin on it.

I'd say its the same.
I have the Interfit strobies kit.
I did a comparison of all the various OCF modifiers I've collected. When I get some time I plan to do a comparison and post it to my tutorial site.

Bottom line, as with all the other stuff that fits on a camera flash, its still a small light source and thus the shadows will have relatively sharp edges. i.e. no smooth transition from shadow to highlight.
And, they suck up light.

I doubt that I'll ever use it with a person, but it might prove useful for macro photography where it would be a large light source relative to the subject.

Please point the way because I never found any from the Flashpoint BD; I was only able to find some DIY BD samples.
Ergo, the reason for this thread. :)

^Almost made it 3 years, lol.
I ended up grabbing the Flashpoint and found it to be far more superior than the interfit strobies or DIY dishes. Matter fact, I have two of em and they're magical.

I have several of the Flashpoint Q dishes as well as the Strobies and Calumet Speedlite dishes that look very similar to the Flashpoint Q's but are much more cheaply made. The Flashpoint Q dishes throw the most even pattern of light where as the Calumet and Strobies throw a doughnut shaped pattern of light. The Calumets, as I mentioned, are very cheaply built. The mounting straps rip apart easily, the deflector for the beauty dish is small and cheesy while it may look like the Flashpoint Q system it isn't. The Strobies mounting system feels like I am going to rip the head off my speedlites everytime I use them as they are very hard to install and the component swap system they have is a good idea but nothing seems to fit properly. I see why they send extra mounting clips because if you swap components much you will be breaking them. I was able to modify the Calumet dish to throw an even pattern of light but the Strobie dish is a joke in my opinion and not worth trying to modify. The only item I like in the strobie line up is the barn doors of which they make a metal pair and a plastic pair. I ordered two set of which one was plastic and one was metal so I guess it is a crap shoot as to which you would get. My advice would be to just get the Flashpont Q's as they seem to be the best built and they throw the most even light pattern although they are the most expensive.
