Questions: Is there any photos can only be accomplished by Hasselblad cameras?? What I meant is: From IQ point of view, is Hasselblad really superior than 1Ds, 5DII cameras? I just can't tell the IQ differences.

If something can post some unique shoots from Hasselblad, please feel free to share. Thank you. :)

The best I can tell you is to go look at a billboard sized photo. Nothing cannon makes can provide photo resolution prints at wall sizes. A Hasselblad or Mamiya large format can.

I have not shot any med format digitals but I use to shoot hasselblad in my film days along with 35mm film. The IQ on the blad was insanely better than the 35mm film. I would guess this would be the same with digital.
To answer your question, the blad is just a bigger dslr. Now if somebody puts a digital back on a view camera then there will be pictures that..........you get my drift.

current gear...1DIII, X-E1, X-PRO 1, X100, Lumix LX5, Fujinon 35 1.4, 85LII, 430EXII, 430EX....

Dynamic range is superior to even what a 1Ds can give - that's one big drawcard to MF/LF.

Are we using 'Hasselblad' to mean 'Medium Format Digital Camera' the same way "Kleenex" means "Facial Tissue'?

I may sound insanely ignorant here, but I always wondered about trusting Hasselblad to make digital cameras. I mean, with a company so specialized and so steeped in tradition, where very few people can buy their product, it always made me wonder how much they really could know about electronics, sensor dynamics, image processing, etc. A company like Sony or Canon has decades of experience in all manners of electronics, and can afford to have custom image processors fabbed for them and understand the electronics/computer side at a fundamental level.

When I see a native Hasselblad digital (and not a third-party back). I have to wonder just how much of the design of their camera they're farming out to more electronics-oriented companies, like Sony, Kodak, or Canon.

It's kind of like those exotic cars where you know that at making only 20 per year, they're using an off-the-shelf engine from BMW and tuning it up.

Don't get me wrong, I KNOW I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to MF. But maybe I'm not the only one who's been quietly harboring that impression?

That's absurdly wrong. It's done every day.

You're right. They are now outsourced to Japan.

If you can't tell, why does it matter to you?

I know it is considered a flame to say so, but, with respect, I think this is one of those questions that can honestly be answered with: if you have to ask, you don't need one.

Go here and play: http://www.hasselbladusa.com …e-quality/resolution.aspx (external link)

The screenshot below shows the quality difference in the Hasselblad system versus a "35mm DSLR alternative." The tones are richer, and then there's the lips. The highlights with the Hasselblad have great detail; the 35mm DSLR not so much - it's just a white blob. Yes, 35mm DSLRs can do amazing things, but there is definite reason to spend the money on the medium format systems.

Ah, but without knowing when it was taken or with what body, this comparison isn't terribly fair ;)

For all we know, they could have taken this comparison with a 1Ds Mark I and their latest 'blad body. Quite a generation gap. Or they could be using a Sony.

Nor do we know how well it was exposed or processed. Just like with film, the different types of sensors require different processing to bring out their best. You couldn't soup 35mm the same way you souped sheet film.
