+25 on bad focus. No filter or servo used on those pics. Hopefully I'll get some time this evening to test this out a little more. Maybe even breakout the tripod. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll post more examples when I get a chance.

As for whether the lens is sharp or not - stick the camera on a tripod and shoot some still subjects. Don't go trying to be fancy shooting fidgety kids with a new lens to judge it... and try to test the lens in better light. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

I think there were some dead branches in front of the fountain. I just got home with the lens andI had both the kids by myself and it was getting dark. I knew I would be traveling today. What can I say, it's my first L lens and I couldn't wait!

Oct 31, 2009 23:14 | #21 Ok, so with Halloween, I didn't have a chance to break out the tripod or stop taking pictures of moving kids, but I did get some better light. Following pics hand held, ISO 200, f2, and shutter speed 800-1250. The guy said I could return the lens if I was not happy, so I want some 3rd party input. Thanks in advance.

Mine doesn't get sharp until f/2.8 so I'd be thrilled with these last images at f/2. It seemed pretty obvious the first set that you posted were user error. I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.

Also, the flat lighting again isn't really good for pulling definition from your subjects (but the lens is still a champ in that regard). Try a final test on a sunny day ( with direct early morning or close to sunset lighting) and you'll see it perform.

Unfortunately it's either been raining or I've home late everyday. Quite the bummer when you get a new lens you want to play with.
