+25 on bad focus. No filter or servo used on those pics. Hopefully I'll get some time this evening to test this out a little more. Maybe even breakout the tripod. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll post more examples when I get a chance.

What the hell is happening with the blur-line on the right edge of the first photo?

As for whether the lens is sharp or not - stick the camera on a tripod and shoot some still subjects. Don't go trying to be fancy shooting fidgety kids with a new lens to judge it...

I think there were some dead branches in front of the fountain.

I just got home with the lens andI had both the kids by myself and it was getting dark. I knew I would be traveling today. What can I say, it's my first L lens and I couldn't wait! :D

Looking forward to more reliable results. Hope for the best as this lens is really a cracker if performing properly :D

Ok, so with Halloween, I didn't have a chance to break out the tripod or stop taking pictures of moving kids, but I did get some better light. Following pics hand held, ISO 200, f2, and shutter speed 800-1250. The guy said I could return the lens if I was not happy, so I want some 3rd party input. Thanks in advance.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this lens. Mine doesn't get sharp until f/2.8 so I'd be thrilled with these last images at f/2. It seemed pretty obvious the first set that you posted were user error.

Enjoy the lens - your copy is fine.

I agree... the second set you posted shows the lens is fine.

Second set is definitely spot on. Also, the flat lighting again isn't really good for pulling definition from your subjects (but the lens is still a champ in that regard). Try a final test on a sunny day ( with direct early morning or close to sunset lighting) and you'll see it perform.

I definitely will. Unfortunately it's either been raining or I've home late everyday. Quite the bummer when you get a new lens you want to play with.

I didn't think I would have problems shooting wide open on this lens since I was used to it with my other lenses. But this focal length and f2 bring something new to the table. Most definitely user error on the first set. I'm going to enjoy learning to use this lens! It's definitely got something special.

Put the camera on a tripod and use MF, LiveView 5x, 10x and then you can see that the lens is indeed sharp.

Good tip gasrocks. I've never messed with live view, but this will be a good excuse to give it a try.
