Hi

I am new here. I am also new to dslr cos just bought it not long ago. And i have bought the crumpler camera bag and i will be leaving to china yunan in a month time. Just a few question i need to ask:

1st- Yunan will be cold and is my first time bringing this camera to oversea. How do i need to protect my camera from moist? I surf the net and alot of them say use a zip log bag to zip it when before going indoor is that right? Or there is out way to prevent?

2nd-Is it possible to bring the crumpler camera bag to cold country? as in there is no zip or anything to prevent the cold wind to enter the bag. Or is it fine to bring?

Any one out there have experience can give some tips or comment on what to do and stuff. Thanks a million.

The ultimate is to put it into an airtight container while it's outside and leave it there until it fully warms up indoors. However, as long as you close the Crumpler up (even though it doesn't have a zipper) and leave it that way to gradually warm, you'll avoid condensation. My Domkes don't have zippers and I use them this way in the cold all the time. The flaps restrict air flow even though they aren't an air-tight seal.

oh ok. so that means that i dont have to bring the zip lock bag as what they say before entering to indoor zip the camera up. And i dont have to buy a new bag just use my crumpler will do. So do as normal will be fine right to say but i going for a week should not be a problem right?

Yeah. Just remember that it'll take longer for the entire camera bag to warm up (partly because of bag padding and partly because there's more mass) than it would just the camera. But letting the whole bag gradually warm together will mean any additional lenses (which would also need to be baggied otherwise) will also get a chance to warm slowly.

ok. i will be following with tour. If i going in to a restaurant to have meal just for awhile (like an hour) is fine right?

After that can i take out the camera straight after that at the outdoor or i have to leave it to cool down to the outdoor temp then i able to take out to snap?

That means when i back to hotel i have to let it sits for hours to let it warm up then i can able to remove the camera from the bag?

And that means before i back to hotel i have remove the battery from the camera so i able to charge and just let the camera bag to warm up (mostly it will take few hours to warm up think by the time i will sleeping. haha)?

Leaving it in the bag in a restaurant for an hour or so, then going back out won't be a problem - you can start shooting again as soon as you get outdoors. It's only when you take a colld camera into a warm (and humid) area that you get condensation. But it will take several hours for it to warm up, especially if it's well below freezing outdoors.

If you're worried about recharging the battery, what I'd suggest (and I'd do this anyhow) is to get at least one more (preferably two) spare batteries. Cold weather kills battery life - warm the batteries up again and they'll be good to go again, but they will seem to run down faster than normal if it's cold out. So have a couple of spare batteries you keep in inside pockets and swap them in as needed. If you have three total and only swap two of them back and forth, just before you finally go in for the night put that third (unused) battery in the camera and button everything up. Then you'll be able to recharge both the other two batteries overnight and start off the next day with a full charge.

If you pick up a third-party one (I don't know where you are; if you're in the US consider Sterlingtek (external link), you might want to get a second charger as well, so you can have two batteries charging at once. And don't forget that you'll probably need plug adapters for the outlets (external link). The standard Chinese one looks like the North American one, but is a little different and 220V instead of 110 (your Canon and most third-party battery chargers will work on either).
