Hellloo,

Every month or so when I'm in the news agent and I've got a bit of spare change I take a photography magazine of some kind.
Anyway they all have such similar names and covers I never know what's good or not, and if I've found a good one I never remember what it was!

I want to get a subscription to one, so anyone in the UK know a magazine that's particularly good?

I like a good balance of tips/technique and gear reviews. (about half/half)
Also something with not a silly amount of adverts.

Anyone wish to share their personal favorite?

Cheers, Ben

While on the other side of the pond, some of my favorite photog mags are from the UK. Outdoor Photography is my favorite. I also like Digital Photo. Hard to find and pricey here, but great reads and many come with cd-roms with info on Photoshop/Elements tips.

I get EOS Magazine from the UK. It's expensive here in the US, but I can't imagine it's too bad there. It's quarterly, but only talks of Canon EOS stuff.

As a natural cheapskate, I read Amateur Photographer each week in my local library, then if its got anything I want to read more thoroughly, or maybe want to study, then I buy a copy.

Like Suzy, my second choice is the EOS magazine.

Like all special interest magazines the world over, they start repeating themselves after a couple of years. Thats boring for us, but the magazine has a fresh audience by then.

Cheers for the ideas. I myself like Digital Photo too, so might go for that one.
Probably wont go for EOS 'cause I like to see what's going on with all the other companies during the year. Well, Internet keeps me up to date but its nice to sit and read a longer article on paper :)

I read PhotoPlus (canon user edition) and AP both mags are a good read.

Yup, EOS Magazine is very good. For you colonials it's now possible to subscribe to an online version. For us Yoorpeans we can add a lifetime subscription to our paper one for less than 10 quid.

The other mag I subscribe to is PhotoPlus because I couldn't resist the offer they had at Focus on Imaging). As TTk says, it's dedicated to Canon gear. A bit simple but some good articles in there. As it's dedicated to one brand it can afford to go into a bit more depth.

AP I check out in the supermarket and buy it if it looks like there's something readable.

Outdoor Photography is very good if Landscapes or Wildlife is your bag. But, again, I check it out first.

Photography Monthly is good as is Digital Photograher. My favourite two though are Professional Photographer and Photo Pro.

Outdoor Photography is the only one I bother with, but it depends what you shoot and want from a mag.

I have had the EOS mag which has good photos often although the articles are a bit basic.

I am a fan of UK photography magaziines, but they are expensive here in the US. They seem to be repetitive too. And many seem to have the same themes over and over (and sometimes different magazines have the same theme the same month): Stunning Pictures; Master Your DSLR; Monochrome; Travel; etc. And all have a lot of ads, even more wasteful here in the US.

I did have a digital subscription to Digital SLR User a year or two ago. Much cheaper than the print version, but after my subscription ended they no longer offered this as an option.

Rather than pay for an annual subscription and be unhappy with half the issues because they don't have much of interest, continue to haunt the news agent, look at the magazines, and pick the one that interests you. Could be more expensive, but this may also offer you more value.

By the way, I also subscribe to EOS Magazine. Very expensive for a quarterly, but lots of good info targeting Canon gear. They now offer a digital version, but I prefer the print edition of this.

I like having both. I love reading the mag when it arrives but I really like having access to back issues with no storage problems.

Is EOS a monthly magazine then or just one for every few months?

They've got it up on their website as October to December issue. So not sure.
