Golden Hour Pig Frog

Worldwide, it has been reported that the populations of frogs and salamanders have been drastically reduced. Many observers have suggested the cause can be directly traced to poisonous insecticides and industrial pollution being absorbed through their skin.

At any rate, no such shortage of frogs appears to be a problem at the Viera Wetlands. Here is another Pig Frog that was out in the morning "Golden Hour" light.........

Beautiful shot, Ira. Pig frog is a new term for me, although I may have encountered them without knowing their name.

Nice. I was in central FL last year and heard my first Pig Frogs. They really do sound like grunting pigs!

If you have eaten Frog Legs, chances are you have eaten Pig Frogs. In Florida the pig frog and the bullfrog have long been considered staples of the frog-leg industry. They are hunted at night from boats using lights and a miniature pitchfork known as a ‘frog gig’. In the grocery store, frog legs sell for about $16 a pound. (Note: If you are thinking of taking up frog gigging, you will need a commercial freshwater fish dealer’s license to take for sale, or sell frogs.)
