I am going to Conway Arkansas just a little north of little rock...

I am looking for places to go... wildlife, landscape... cool places to photograph.

I have been there many times.... last time was about 10years ago.... (before I got into photography).....

I know that I am going to spend some time in the ozark mountains on the way there (oh ya coming from omaha, Ne) that should be great this time of year...

let me know of any good places...

Thanks

About 80 miles north on Hwy 65 is the Buffalo National River and a little east of there at Mountain View is the Ozark Folk Center. Take I-40 west to Ozark and then take Hwy 23 north toward Fayetteville. Hwy 23 is known as the Pig Trail and is steep and winding with some interesting creeks along side the road. The leaves should be changing up there so you may see some color. Also, up along the Buffalo river you may see some Elk. I have family that live in the Little Rock/Conway area and also near Harrison. Those at Harrison see Elk frequently near their property.

If you want to do a lot of driving you can go over to Mena and visit Queen Wilamena State Park. The Talimena Drive near there is a favorite place for people to go to see the leaves though this time of year it can be very crowded.

When you enter Arkansas stop at the Tourist Information Bureau and pick up some brochures about the area. The state has some good information about all the scenic areas around the state.

We've always enjoyed Eureka Springs and Hot Springs, both are scenic and historic.

Here's a website that someone else posted in this forum the other day:

Fall colors are peaking this weekend so you might be coming at just the right time. The Buffalo river is a great place to shoot. You might also drive up White Rock mountain for a great scenic view from the top, but it can be a rough drive.

After looking things over some.... Mount Magazine looks like a good place as well?

Has anyone been there?

Thanks

was probably me that posted the arkansas site. I live very close to it, and if you are here in the mornings especially, you are guaranteed some elk, well, probalby 90% of the time. If not the morning, go for a hike to hawksbill crag, or lost valley, both close to the elk, and get some great shots while you wait for evening. I would vote for hawksbill crag myself. Excellent hike, and breathtaking view. If you decide to go there, and need directions, just let me know, and i can tell you how to get there.

Oh, and the colors have already came and mostly gone there. Bad storm here the other day and he says on his site that it knocked off most of the leaves. Still a great hike though.
