Is the shutter in my new 7D busted?

I just received it, charged the battery, and tried taking some pics.

The shutter makes a 'thunk' noise.

With my XSi, the shutter makes 'clank' noise like a normal SLR camera.

Do the pictures come out OK? My 20d sounds totally different than my XS.

the audible noise from camera to camera can be DRASTICALLY different. Don't panic if it doesn't sound the same... just look into it if the photos are being ruined. More than likely anyway, you won't be able to tell a broken DSLR shutter from the noise it makes anyway.

EDIT: also, do a youtube search if it bugs you...
I just typed in "canon 7d shutter sound" and got a ton of videos...

If it's just the noise that you're worried about, then no it's not busted. Every camera sounds different and it would be the 7D that is more like a normal SLR camera.

No kidding. Check out these classic cameras. They range from a simple snick of the Olympus 35RC to a bone crunching guillotine of the Canon EF.

I just searched and it seems like some 7D owners are saying it makes a dull thunk noise too.

If you are worried, it will not hurt to speak to your dealer or Canon, just in case.
