Has anybody shot at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas? I'll be shooting the 4A State Volleyball Championships there this Friday and Saturday. What is the ambient lighting like? Are there house strobes? Any other relevant info? Thanks.

Phil,

A fellow named Jeff Cooper is a SS member from Salina, KS. I don't know him at all but found his info on SS. You might contact him to see if he has any insights. Here is his website.

There is nothing on SS about that area.

I talked to Jeff an hour ago. He works for the Salina Journal. Nice Guy. He said they no longer light that venue because of improved lighting upgrade a few years ago. They will shoot ambient at f/2.8 ISO 800 at 1/500. I will skip the strobes, double the ISO and go ambient at 2.8 (or less if I shoot the 135 f/2.0) and get the SS quicker.

I googled the Salina newspaper, called and asked for the photography department, got Jeff's boss and he referred me to Jeff as the expert at that venue. Jeff even offered to help me set up my strobes if I wanted them but said they no longer bother since ISO 800 worked for them. We will meet up tomorrow. Small world.

Thanks Kevin.

Sounds like a very well lit facility. Good luck to you and the team and be safe on your trip.
