I've recently been lurking through this forum, specifically this thread, trying to understand automotive lighting. i decided to join and wanted to show what i've come up with from the helpful advice in here. this is actually my first attempt at lighting a vehicle.

i used one 430EX II into 28" softbox. shot 4 separate exposures and combined them in PS. i popped the flash several times in each exposure.

Not bad at all. The only thing I see is the softbox stops mid door.

thanks. yeah, that's what kind of bothers me, but not too much. i took my attempt at removing it, but it didn't blend for me. also, i was trying to get a more seamless look of the softbox on the windshield. maybe, i'll have to try something else. overall, i'm quite pleased with the look.

honestly from my inexperienced eye, it looks good to me. Other than a few technicals, I like the composition and the mood of the pic too. Much better than I would do my first time, I'm sure!

I agree crazy.

Try putting a CFL bulb in the softbox next time and see what you get.

New Ferrari FF was going to be unveiled tonight at the local dealer. I went in during the day before hand and snapped a quick picture (maybe 5 min with setup) of it in the showroom. Tried to kill most of the ambient...everything lit was done by just a 430ex to keep from having a huge setup in the middle of their showroom.

First few of these are due to arrive for customers who pre-ordered near the end of the year. At first I wasn't crazy about the car but after seeing one in person and being in it...its not so bad. 660hp, awd, backseat, free maintenance for 7 year....not so bad.

Very nice work man. Flat out inspiring. Did you ever find a huge modifier?

I've been in Italy for a month, working, and haven't seen a single prancing horse, or raging bull. I saw more Italian exotics running around in Orlando, when I lived there.

No, I'm not a professional photographer, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Probably more Porsches here in Los Angeles than all of Germany

(car turned)

is this how you shot it Raymond? Lighting the ground and not the car itself? or did you point the strobes up a bit more?

^ Woah! way too much tone mapping/clarity. Tone it all down a bit, clone out the fence and maybe a slight rotation and it would be a great shot. I'd drop a sky in that one too.

Thank you for the feedback

Yes they could be, but the drivers wanted them to be this way....(We made 3 different shot for their sponsors ;) )
It was my very first time, lighting a car and a team at night

Thank you
