Definitely a job well done for a first attempt. Keep it up, and keep us posted. Maybe even start your own "Strobist Journey Thread"

Thanks!! Yeah I haven't had the cash for stands yet, so I rigged up a few old tripods to use as stands for now haha. I see what you mean, next time I will keep them up high and aim them down. Thank you! :) Like I said total noob haha It will be fun to learn though.

Very good for first time! I'd decrease your shutter speed too - the background is a bit underexposed for me. Not by a lot, maybe a stop or a stop and half. The light output on the car is fine. You've got the great clouds and wet pavement going for you in that shot, just not enough light in the background. Another thing to try is simply bracket your shots and then you'll zero in on what looks best.

Look forward to your next set!
James

Thanks guys! I found some nice 6.5 foot stands, going to order them up!

The shutter speed determines the ambient light correct? So if i slow it down a bit it will lighten the background. Good point! Thank you! I will definitely post up my next try also!

Thanks for the tips!

:) Yep. Make sure you have a tripod on the camera to keep things steady.

That is also something I have to buy. I have some lower end ones but they don't support my 1D body and big lenses. Bought some cheap budget equipment, now finally buying good quality stuff! :p

nice shot civicsi, im in the same situation as you. I just received my yongnuo 603's in the mail today. I only have one 580ex and no stands. I ordered 2 sets of 603's tho so I use one for the flash and the other to trigger the shutter. So I walked around my dads truck holding the flash and I will merge the pictures together. If my shot's are worthy enough ill post it up once its done

Strobist info:
Profoto d1 camera right through door
Profoto d1 camera left front of the car spilling over

d1 was directly on the car camera right and camera left was a strobe froming 45 degrees in.

I think thats where the shadow is coming from any pointers. I think the lights were aimed high and down on the car.

d1 profoto head in octobox above camera high. I hid the highlight of the box in the shape of the bumper.

(cameraphone shot of area)

this is their little shop with a few window up above. I did try shooting the lights aimed at the ceiling but the ceiling has a tan color to it so it made the hood have nice brown colors lol... As well as lots of reflections of the beams. If it was a solid ceiling it would have worked in my favor.

It was the first time I got to shoot the profotos on a car, I recently picked them up due interning i was getting compensated for equipment rental for a fashion photographer I was interning for.

I only had an hour on this car, and limited room as well we could not move the car at the time because the engine was getting redone.

Any pointers would be greatful =) I've been reading up this forum a lot and thanks for the helpful info in all the threads and posts everyone!

def. the only bodykit that looks great on a RX7.... I've seen 2 myself

don't think the last shot works from that side.

The VS badge comes separate from the rest of the kit. I forget how much it was.

The interior? yea i figure i'd give it a shot from the door. The doors a lambo doors so you can't even get a light in with out aiming it some odd way. we had to be careful since the body and doors are fiberglass. everytime you open them it might chip the body so we kept the doors open and closed. Only opened them 4 times.

oh this wasn't a shot
its a cameraphone picture of the area i had to work with.

I was going to gobo and block out the windows. I edited out the electric lines out.
The garage was basically limited to 6 feet in front and on the right of the car 10 feet.
