It hasn't evolved into anything, people are just getting lazy and not posting or taking setup pics at all but want their stuff posted in this thread. Setup pics is what makes this thread worth it.

I see. It's good to see the set-up pictures because I am able to at least get an idea on lighting for pictures since I'm a newb.

Hopefully this season we can see more set-up pics!

I agree also... I want to see both the outcome and the setup shot.... I don't have the experience and skill some of the people have on this thread.. i hope to take my AB1600's out and try this summer if I can find some good cars. I'm getting excited after looking at some of these photos....

There should be a separate thread for people that just want to post pictures though without the setup shot.

We have one of those as well

Here are 4 pictures merged into one, as I only own 1 flash. Flash was fired into a umbrella the whole time.

Quick photo to get this thread back on track!

I previously focused on using 3-4 strobes to completely light a photo (rear wheel, front wheel, offside front wheel etc.)

For this photo i wanted the light to be a bit more dramatic so focused on only using 2 strobes, albeit positioned a bit further away (and higher) from the car to reduce hotspots, but with a higher power to light up enough of the photo. For anyone interested i was using 2 x Lencarta Safari Li-On strobes set to around 1/2 power each, so roughly 250-300w per strobe.

Here's the setup shot as well as the tripod to give you a rough idea on how car the camera was positioned:
