Great thread!
I hope that reading the previous 19 pages last night helped with my first auto shoot today? I did not get the shot I wanted but hope to Sunday. A little bit about what's going on. This GT-3 belongs to my boss. He has completely gutted it and is totally converted for track use only. The images were taken today while at work in an aircraft hangar. I wanted to place the car between two G-550's (external link) and shoot downward from a 40' lift. Bummed out that I ran out of time but may try the shot Sunday afternoon as I have to work.

Okay, sorry bout that. Setup is 3 AB800's
1AB800 w/ red gel inside of car on the floorboard pointing straight up.
1AB800 on boom towards front of car.
1AB800 on 10' stand towards rear of car.

Thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated. ABR is a bit cumbersome with the addition of the camera. However, it will not take you long to adjust to it. Comes in handy for an extra light too, when not using it as a ring flash.

Question, I'm supposed to be shooting a car tonight in very dark alley. I have 1 ab1600 and 2 ab800's. What kind of exposure time should I be expecting? I will have a light meter and all just curious as this will be my first. That is, if the guy follows through and shows up.

Thanks.

Here's my stab at it.

Strobist:

1 - SB900 - 1:1 camera left pointed straight at rear bumper - pointing roughly at the 2 o'clock position from camera 12 o'clock position

1 - SB600 - 1:1 Camera right pointing at front right tire pointing roughly 8 o'clock position

exposure time is dependent on your shooting style. If youre a low key kinda guy, then you can shoot it at full sync and use the strobes to selectively light your subject. but if you're more high key, or want a balanced look, then your exposure time will probably be quite long. or jack up the ISO

^^

#2 is your best.

Frankly, you might want to try a different technique for lighting. Are you only using one/two speed lights? It looks that way since only one part is lit properly.

Keep trying! :)

Here is also a picture of my friend Derek's Evo, we made a site called www.stunnrstatus.com (external link) and the rest of this photo shoot is in my flickr in the evo set. for this shot i set up 1 580exll on other side of car shooting through the right rear window area aimed at the glitter seat back of the Bride seat. flash power at 1/4.
