Which lens do you guys prefer using for night shot with strobes? 17-40L or 70-200L?

70-200 for me. Only because it is my sharpest lens and to a lesser extent the compression.

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

I don't own the 17-40L yet or i'm sure I'd use it a lot...I mostly use 50mm 1.4 and 70-200L

24-105mm is much better for the automotive side of things. Mainly because it has Image Stabilization.

Works great.

My first thought is its way to bright. With the decay in the surroundings a dark and moody feel would fit better.

If you're shooting with strobes IS doesn't have much of a use, not unless you're using some mean HD filters and shooting at an obscenely long shutter speed. Most of my photos are composites as well, so a tripod is a must which put IS out completely.

I normally use my 17-40 and 24-70 on a 5DII.

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Speedotron users, untie!

Hi,

OP here. Great to see the thread is still going strong!

What does everyone think of using a CP filter while shooting cars with strobes?

now this jumps out at me mainly because most magna's/verada's tend to be family shopping trollies. nice setup, increasing number of these things running around here with body kits etc
