Sigma 24 mm 2.8 Super-Wide Macro Lens

Does anyone know anything about this lens? I found a used one but Iwasn't sure if it would mount to a 40D.

Not sure 24 qualifies as super wide. What is the entire name of this lens? Some older SIgma will not work on newer bodies. Or, a link to the one you saw.

As far as I know, Sigma 24mm f/2.8 Super-Wide Macro Lens, is the name. Yeah 24 isn't very wide, but I was interested in a 24 prime for a crop camera (and it's cheap). Because it's called "super-wide" I'm afraid it's an old film mount and won't fit my 40D.

If it's an autofocus Canon mount, it will "fit".

If it's really old, it might not "work" (so you might have to use manual focus/shoot wide open) even if it mounts.

You can shoot 24mm @ f/2.8 with your 17-55, so not sure what you'd be gaining, but it's your money

And 24mm isn't that much different than 30mm (since you have the 30/1.4)

They call it "Super-Wide" because 24mm on a film camera is just at the end of the "Super Wide" range (24mm on a film camera gives you the same FOV as a 15mm on your 40D)

Yeah, I think I'd have to manual focus on it. The only reason I was interested was the guy only wanted $40. You're right, I have plenty good glass in that focal range. I passed on the lens. Thanks for the input.

Are you sure? I'm trying to calculate the odds that an old 24/2.8 lens at $40. will be sharper than your 17-55/2.8 IS lens.

Agreed. I didn't buy the lens.

I just received this lens today. It works nicely on the 20D. I do see that many people as well as myself have experienced that any aperture other than 2.8 displays "Error 99," which I feel is the only short coming so far.

I got it recently on eBay for 31 euros. Soft wide open needing to dial in +7 on my 5DII for accurate focusing. Noisy as anything but what do you expect for an ageing lens. Why did I buy it? Was a good idea at the time but i won't be using this at all. Vignetting is bad too. I guess it's my next lens to open up and see what's inside.
