It rains here frequently, mostly before it gets to Scotland, I might add. If you're like me you'll have umpteen wet weather trousers/ even ski trousers when it gets cold and wet. I had an old pair of ski trousers that got too tight in the waist and I cut off the leg, used the elasticated strap off an old pair of shin guards with velcro attached and got the missus to stitch it altogether and I now have a totally weatherproof lens and camera cover thats fleece lined and keeps the hands warm in the winter. Cost me all of £0 and it looks so cool everyone else that sees it wants one too.
Before I got the cover I took a chance in the rain with my 20D and I almost lost it when water got through the control panel screen and all readings changed to 888. Only thing that saved it was a week in the hotpress with every oriface stuffed with silicon beads salvaged from shoeboxes.

I wasnt talking about "image" from a rain cover genius.. image in general.

I used the pants from a rain suit for quite a while actually... worked fairly well but the cover I use now has a lot of features that make it easier for me to take pictures as well as protecting my equip without worries. I still have the rain pants in my truck as backup always. I didnt cut off any pants legs though... one leg went down the monopod and the other went down the lens..pants opening gave me acess to the camera

300 2.8 ... so I guess thats a big lens. The snaps at the ankle made the leg fit very snug. Not sure the 400 would fit in them though
