I've posted in 2 other places with no response. Hopefully this is the right spot.

Here's my first shot at studio lighting (Calumet 200's & umbrella). The pictures are unprocessed other than crop, WB, & minor exposure. CC is greatly appreciated.

#1 - 1 light & umbrella on subject. 1 light on background.

Very good job for your first shot at it. I would brighten the gray part of the background up in the 1st one, so its not two toned. The 2nd one has some hot spots on her face, but still cute, and i love the 3rd shot!

I had trouble getting even lighting on the back drop on #1. I only used one light. Any tips on getting it setup correctly so I don't have to photoshop it?

The 3rd shot is my boy who's always smiling. I get lots of great pictures of him.

Thanks. She ran in to the room while I was taking photos and I snapped 3 quick shots of her. That was the best one. Yes, she is very shy, and she was eager to meet up with the rest of the kids play so I only got a minute with her.

The faces look a tad hot to me; I do like the expressions. I wonder how your gray background would look like if you used that background light as a kicker instead.

Mossman, I don't understand what a kicker is. Does that mean lighting up the background? The gray background was the white background with no lights on it.

It's a hair light, so that it creates a nice rim of light on the edge of the subject opposite of the main light. :)

Instead of having the light to the side, you can place it directly behind the model shooting upward. It won't cover the entire background, but you will get a nice "halo" on the BG.

Mossman, bbvdm, thanks for the tips. I'll try them out after the Cowboys win!
