Maybe it is just me but I have troble keeping track of all the new lenses that just came out or are about to. Trying to stick to things of interest to Canon users, and not really rumors. Off the top of my head: EF 100/2.8 L IS macro, ef-s 15-85, ef-s 18-135, Tamron 60/2 macro, ZE 21/2.8, ZE 28/2, ZE 35/2, ZE 100/2. Samyang (and all the other names it will have) 14/2.8, 35/1.2. Was there mention of a Zeiss 35/1.4? What did I miss? Oh, Tamron 17-50 VC. And the new CV lenses (new to Canon mount) 20 and 40?

Add the ZE 18 F/3.5, CV 58 F/1.8 to this list, and the Samyang fisheye and Samyang 85 F/1.4 (those are still quite new).

How far do you want to go back? TS-E 24L II and TS-E 17 come to mind :D.

BTW, was the ZE 100 F/2 Macro announced yet? I seem to have missed that.

Kind regards, Wim

Yes, ZE 100/2 to be out before the end of the year? Has there ever been a time when so many new lenses were around? I've got the Vivitar 7/3.5 fisheye and the Rokinon 85/1.4 already. I was concentrating on lenses not just out or ones out but with no good reviews so far.

It's a reflection of modern times - photography is becoming mainstream, and the quality of DSLRs compared to the cost is better than it ever has been. Makes sense that more lenses will appear.

Great time to be a hobbyist photographer!

Only if you can afford it. If you can't, you just sit back and cry while others get the cool toys. Take me for instance with the 7D........ Sigh

It doesn't matter unless it's made by Canon.

Why? I only pop up my head when I am looking for a specific lens to solve a specific shooting problem. All other times, I just enjoy the equipment I own without lusting over every new gadget that comes out.

Ah, but if that specific lens does not yet exist, how will you ever know when one becomes available? If you need an example, take the Sigma 4.5mm fisheye for crop cameras - that filled a gap that no other lens yet does (unless you count the fixed-aperture 5.6mm Superfisheye, or whatever it's called). I'm waiting for someone to come out with an 8 or 9mm EF-S prime - that's another gap still open.

Mark.

I guess life is simpler if you only buy Canon lenses. I'll bit my tongue instead of saying what I thought next.

The Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 is still in rumor mode but they've got a Contax 35/1.4 so I don't think its far from reality

The 35mm Samyang sounds exciting... hope it performs like the 85mm and is just as low cost

I only pay attention to AF lenses. I don't have the money for crazy Zeiss lenses so it's easy to rule them out, plus I don't have a viewfinder big enough to effectivly use them!

Yes, MF is difficult with the tiny viewfinders. What do you do when AF fails?
