Now tell Dad he really, really needs 14/2.8, 24/1.4, 35/1.4, 85/1.2, 135/2, 200/2, 300/2.8, 500/4 and 800/5.6. He really should have some TIlt Shift and Macro lenses, too! ;)

Meanwhile, have fun with the 24-70!

Congrats! My dad was the one who got me into photography and gave me my first film body/collection of lenses. He's no longer into the hobby, but he started me off a path I'm still in love with after all these years...now I'm the one who's buying film for his camera and trying to get him back into it! :)

Congrats on a great lens! Every time I have "shared" something with my kids (lenses, watches, etc.) they somehow never get returned.

I have three young children so I sure hope I won't need three "bricks" to share with them in a few years!!
Great lens though, I rented one a couple of years ago, enjoy.

Uh... I thought there would be more openness to my newest lens... Maybe you are all used to having the luxury of L lenses. I like it. Very heavy. I like how it is sharper than my previous EFS 17-85

I also upgraded to the 24-70 lens from a EF-S 17-85 recently :D
and I have to agree that it is waaaay sharper wide open than the EF-S lens but walking around with it isn't as easy lol maybe I need to workout :D

Well depending how old your kids are you may still have 10 years to save up for 3 bricks :D

Actually, he got this as an additional lens. I hate to say it, but EF-S FTW still. *Ducks*

congrats! I still remember my first...uh...L lens.... Now tell your dad you'd like to share the 70-200 2.8L IS.

Some stuff that says "Canon" on it and a happy trigger finger.

I gave my dad his first L lens, my 70-200 F4. I bought it to use as a backup to my 2.8 IS but it sat untouched for months so I gave it to him to replace his bottom of the barrel gold ring canon zoom.

If you plan on using a xxD, 7D, or other APS-C camera the rest of your life, than yes, EF-S FTW. But if you invest in some nice EF-S lens and then need to upgrade to a bigger/better camera...you're gonna be like...EF-S...FML. For that sole reason, I will never buy an EF-S lens. And plus, I'm addicted to the red L ring  Know any good rehab centers? lol.

I am a 15 year old... Couldn't afford to buy new L even if I tried. I am considering a used 30 or 40 right now.
