Hi Everyone - thinking to buy this lens this coming November.. since I never bought zeiss before I'm hoping to get some help here.

1) does this lens works w/ the focus confirmation light in my 5Dc or 1D3??
2) can I control the aperture in camera or is it manual on the lens?

thanks!!

Hi Wummy,

Yes the focus confirmation light works great on the 5Dc - I also have the beep enabled as sometimes the light is a little faint in bright daylight (for me anyway).
You may want to invest in a prescision matte screen although to be honest, I installed one but it didnt make *that* much difference. If I wasnt using the focus confirmation light then yes, I would use the Ee-S screen but otherwise, the standard screen is fine.
As far aperture, I control it fine from the camera.
Cheers.

For me the precision matte screen makes a huge difference. A must-buy IMO. Focussing by eye will be so much more easier.

Love this lens - anyone getting sporadic Err 01 "clean lens contacts" or something like that? I've gotten it twice over the past couple of days. Beyond that, works great don't want take it off. Excepet for the 21!

I Am selling all but my 24-105 to keep on my 7d for kid shots, everything else is going zeiss prime. These lenses blow me away. The colour on that 21 is so dead on, and I have never seen a wide angle with tis kind of finedetail.

I never had it with the ZE 2/35, but did with the ZE 2/50. I called up the shop where I bought the lens and was planning on just asking for some advice in general. They told me to come back and exchange the lens, so I did. Never had the issue since.

Hmmm...it is happening about 1x a day...may have to take it back. Or maybe I could just clean the contacts on my camera (as they've never received any "love").

I don't really care that much unless it becomes a huge problem as I love this lens...and it has a nice warranty.

I agree. To be honest, I wasn't planning on having it replaced when I made the phone call. I do feel a bit more comfortable using the lens now knowing that it won't fail me on a shot that's important to me.
