help with my speedlite 220ex

hello forum....I was wondering if I am supposed to see any light from the red part on the front of my new flash....when I look at any infra red type device (tv remote etc) through my dv camcorder I can 'see' the device flash although I cant see anything with my naked eyes.....with the speedlite I cant see any activity although I think its working ok (I am very new to this )....any one else here got a speedlite and can see the red part do anything....also any links on how to use my flash would be fantastic...thanks in advance folks !...............dave

The G6 does NOT activate the flash's infrared beam, just as it doesn't for the 550/580 EX models. No need to as the camera's own AF assist lamp does the job.
