Dirk, that's a stunner! Makes me want to download the original and use it as a screen saver on my big TV...Great work!

I just bought this lens yesterday. I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from this lens but its very soft at 2.8. Sometimes it ok but most of the time its not. I tried f4 and f5.6 and it's giving me some inconsistent results. So far I'm not that impressed. Can you guys enlighten me maybe I'm doing something wrong. :)

Some test shots at the store (No pp):

With no Post Processing those look good to me, especially for indoor shots. You were shooting wide open and so have a narrow depth of field, of course, so most of the picture is out of focus, but what was in focus looked great, IMO.

I heard the non-VC is sharper. Perhaps swap it out for that.

They look sharp to me. Plus, I never judge a lens by shooting indoors. Especially w/ out flash. Go out and use it in real applications and this lens is very nice.

+1 on what Matt said. As you put it "tried f4 and f5.6 and it's giving me inconsistent results...maybe I am doing something wrong"
No offense, but if you are shooting f4 and f5.6 indoors without a flash, you are doing something wrong. If you find a lens that consistently gives great results under those conditions, let me know what it is and I will sell this one and buy it:lol:

@Mookalafalas

Thanks man. With 2 days of using it, I'm beginning to enjoy it.

@mattchapman

That's what I suppose to get however the Canon mount it out of stock. I was surprised that the price of VC is less than 20k php.

@izthistaken

I don't have my flashgun with me when I went I purchased it. Tried it on a birthday party with my flashgun and so far so good.

@gepixelt

Thanks man. I focused on the "Please get one".

@All

Sometimes the MF produces sharper images than using AF. Anyone experienced it with this lens?

If you have liveview on your camera, pop it on a tripod and compare regular focus, to liveview focus. If the liveview focus is noticeably better, you probably need to send in the camera for focus re-calibration.

I will try this later. Thanks. :)
