With all the mixed reviews, I'm seriously considering cancelling my order (bought it from Henry's website, but it's not returnable) and waiting for it to be more widely available with more reviews.

A retailer in the UK has rejected an entire batch as too many of them were faulty.
The good examples are damn good, a worthy successor to the non VC version. However this is let down by initially poor quality control from Tamron.
I would hope that they sort this soon, but I have to say that once it is sorted and you get a working copy you'll love it.
I have noticed nothing of what that review states to be honest.

I was loaned a 17-50 (non vc) version while waiting for my replacement. It was good actually, focusing was dead accurate and none of issues of the VC surfaced. I'm wondering on how to actually getting a good copy of this lens when an entire batch could be rejected! I was told that my replacement will be shipped in 2 weeks time, hopefully i will be lucky this time around.

I wonder if those rejected ones can be calibrated or if they're junk? I'd like to give it a chance once they are available in store, and if it's not working properly they can send it to tamron and get it fixed. For the price difference over the Canon 17-55IS I'd like to give it a chance..

I purchased this lens about a week ago and finally got a chance to take it out and shoot with it yesterday. I had gotten a little impatient waiting on its release and purchased the non-VC version of this lens a couple of weeks earlier. I was not too impressed with the non-VC version (sharp from f4, a little noisy, contrast and color were only so-so).

This one has blown me away. Sharp wide open, less noise, good color and contrast and I am hand-holding shots at 1/5 of a second and getting great results. I'll try to post some samples later tonight.

Peace.

That's good to hear!

On a side note, I was just checking Henry's website and they have the non-VC model available again.

Bad news. Mine just starting giving an error code about needing to clean the lens contacts. I didn't think it was performing well when I had it out last Friday night. Sadly I think this one is going back. I can't decide if I want to try another one or go with the 28-75, which I have rented and also loved. I'm gun shy after starting to hear these reports about quality control. :(

Nice pics, Ryan. Nice to see some "real world" photos taken OUTDOORS instead of all of the "book" tests. Still waiting to see how this lens handles nice BRIGHT colours on a nice SUNNY day!! I hope they POP off the screen almost 3-D like as those from the Non VC version do.

Hi
Just received mine today, here is a quick shot, crappy few minutes raw file develope.
Let me know if you need more. Picture taken at around 1PM sunny day (no cloud
and very harsh lighting), please don't mind the composition, I was only tried to test the lens at full wide 17mm on cropped 7D.
1st impression: (don't have time for it yet) but Love it :) love the features, the build...

Looks nice Dongson. Thx for posting.

I think we need to see more of these types of photos (normal every day pics) before we make a final conclusion about the lens. (either praise or condemn)

I don't understands the question, please explain

CA = chromatic aberration (the blue stuff around the branches)

@dongson:

Did you do much PP to those pics? They have very natural looking color! :)
