Strobing night football??

Ok, this may sound crazy-insane, but I'd through I'd throw it out there.

I have 3 force 10 monolights ... these babies can light a room!

I am shooting senior/parent night and planned on setting one on a pole with an off camera 580 next to me - or - a second strobe next to me on a stand. I set this up last year and it worked great!

But I only shot the pregame ceremony.

The ceremony is at 5:30 pm and game time is 7:00. I will be dark here by 5:15. I will have well over an hour to kill, so I was thinking ...

attach a strobe to the a stand and lock them to the fence. one at the goal line facing across field, One at the 30 at the goal posts. On the other side of the field, use one strobe at the 10 yard line crossing to the visiting goal line.

The idea is strobe anything neat the end zones.

I know that I limit myself to small section of the sidelines.

what do you think??

I think you will still be better off strobing on camera.
Strobe is focused on the action.

What's "the a stand"?

I think you'd have a hard time exposing properly based on how far the subject is from the lights... too close and the exposure will be blown out... too far and you'll be underexposed.

Maybe you'd have better luck mounting them up high... from the announcer's booth maybe? Using them as fill/flood strobes... evenly supplementing the field lights across the whole area.

What size reflectors do you have?

What wireless triggers do you have?

so, yes, these will be too low! But I have full access and maybe able t o get to a few spots that may work.

yes, i know the exposure will not be as perfect as indoors, but since I am setting up anyway, it maybe worth a try. I have a bad feeling that a ref or the opposing coaches will complain.

The booth maybe out of the question, as it is a small booth and will really bother a bunch of people. But the plan was to flood the 35 yards line in ... and just hope for the best.

None that I can use, only the basic disc's for modeling etc. 25" and about that. A few umbrellas. I would not go this in depth.

There's no way I'd mount $1000 lights on a stand like that within 100 yards of a HS football game.

I'd only put lights on a stand across the track from most football fields. It's a safety issue and remember to use common sense as you could be held liable for placement of your lights, although it might fall on the school as well.

As a side note, I think I want a beast setup now.
