I say you either got a dud S90 or are doing something wrong when you take them. Mine's very sharp, no blurriness issues here.

Hi Gardengirl
I'll post you a waterfall shot for you to judge for yourself how well the ND works.

Also dont underestimate the articulating screen. I'm waiting to have a disc removed from my back at the moment, and, as a result am struggling to be mobile. That feature has enabled me to take some shots without my DSLR's.

This waterfall shot was taken after a long walk with all my gear in my rucksack and when I got there my 7d and 450d stayed in the bag and my G11 came out to take the shot. I love it, its a great camera.
Good luck with your health x

Ian, thanks for that! Very capable I'd say!

Yeah back pain sucks! I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which is an auto-immune arthritis (a cousin to rheumatoid arthritis) which affects my back. My immune system attacks the inflammation and basically grows new bone which may lead to a fused spine(two examples Mick Mars and Ed Sullivan both have/had it, that's why Ed Sullivan crossed his arms all the time, his back was hunched from this disease,) and now my other joints are getting affected as well. It's been attacking my hands and wrists a lot which makes it hard to even lift a glass of water. Right now my vertebrae are starting to "square" and the drs are tying horrible medications to stop it, but so far it hasn't progressed any farther. But it's progressed a lot in my hips, shoulders, knees, ankles and hands.

It's not real bad yet, so a big part of me is trying to just live great now, meaning I really want the 5DII and some nice L lenses to just have tons of fun with, then deal with a p&s later, but a bigger part of me knows if I get that camera my hands won't handle it longer then a few months. My 30D is too heavy for me and adding 4ozs may push it too far.

My husband wants me to go to a rebel instead, but he tried one the other day and said it's still too much especially with lenses on it. He had me mess around with his little A something or other p&s and I felt ok using it. I think it's about 8ozs. So I assume the 12ozs of the G11 would be ok. I think with my back and stuff the rotating LCD would be helpful, and right now that and the little extra zoom is what's pushing me that way. I also think the lightness of the S90 would cause me to wobble a bit more.

Thanks everyone! I really hope this works out for me. Who knows maybe I'll get more inspired again and get some really fun shots with it! The two big contests I've won with my photography were taken with my old A610 (which I miss.) The stuff taken with the 30D has only won smaller contests.

One more question. I use the * button a lot on my 30D, is there one on the G11?

The G11 has LOTS of buttons to play with. Here's a diagram from the user manual. I'm not familiar with the 30D, but I'm guessing the * button is the same feature on the G11 - AE and FE lock ( #13 in the diagram)?

Gotta say here, with everything you've said above, it sounds like a great case for one of the Micro 4/3's cameras like the Olympus E-PL1, or the Samsung NX10. Something smaller and lighter, but still very capable. Coming back from a dSLR with interchangeable lenses, to a compact camera may be a leap further back than you'd like.

Dennis, yes that's the button! And almost in the same place as it is on the 30D Thanks!

Meanwhile, I never really gave the micro much thought. Part of the problem is carrying so many lenses. When I'm not feeling well I normally just have the camera with the 28-105II on it as my version of a p&s. Part of the reason I'm looking at p&s cameras only is I don't want lenses with me. I want it light and to not worry about changing lenses. I'll be hard enough to lug the G11 and a tripod (although my husband usually carries the tripod for me.)

I think I found the "perfect" little digital camera for you, it's light weight, and the interchangeable lenses are small and light....

In another lifetime I had a Leica M3; it was my favourite camera ever. Unfortunately it was stolen. Along the way, when I could, I bought an M4P. I didn't like it at all! Like humans, each had a different personality.
A financial crunch for me...Leica lenses were extremely expensive. I never did buy the wide angle lens I coveted for either camera.
My Canon G9 seemed much like a Leica to me. I enjoyed using it for street photography. The lens problem was solved with the wonderful zoom lens on the g9.
Lesson I learned was to work with the camera before I bought it to make sure that the camera was a good choice for me.
I'm looking forward to seeing wonderful photos in your posts.

Well I found a local camera store I didn't know was there. I of course fell head over heels in love with the 5DII! I want one so bad, but even today, almost 24 hours later, my hands hurt and are slightly swollen from playing around with it for only 45 minutes!

But they did have the S90 and G11, not other local stores (walmart, target, best buy) carry either, so I was very excited to see how they feel! Man am I glad I did!! The s90 felt horrible in my hands. I couldn't figure out how to hold it right. But the G11 felt like home. It was nice, not too heavy, good ergonomics for me and I didn't find it too difficult to get around the menu button from hitting my thumb.

So needless to say that'll be the p&s I get! I've finally been able to make the choice, just by holding them. Now I was going to buy it yesterday, but I thought today was payday, it turns out yesterday was and I could have bought it then! Oh well. I'll be getting it soon and will post photos.

I really hope this will be enough of a camera for a bit for me. I'm saving for another DSLR, to upgrade my current one, but I'm having more trouble then I thought with the weight. So I'm scared this will be it for now.
