Ah my bad, I done some research into tasers (yes I am board) :p

Found this:
Using a 9V battery 18Watts = 50,000V

so maybe me giving this thing 100 jiggawatts was a bit over the top......
....

More bordem assuming jigga=giga then 100GW = 100,000,000,000 watts

thats only 277,777,777,777,778 Volts (assuming same current....) thats not gonna hurt is it :p

thanks neal's other half :D it was a tastey pear though:p

Yep - a Giga is 1000 megas. I'm not questioning your figures - but I think rather than in terms of Static we should be thinking Joules and capacitor charge/discharge - Nastier.

Well given the seperation distance that voltage is well about the breakdown voltage of air so it is meaningless, I thought I would work it out seeing as I wrote 100JW in the display:p

But isn't energy over a time measured in Watts anyway?? (Joules with a charge/dischage time)

This is getting complicated I think we should use a scale system:
1. Pin Prick
2. Ant Bite
3. Snake Bite
4. Tiger Bite
5. My Word You are being a bit mean arn't you
6. Holey Moley This Hurts
7. Vaporizer

I think I've thought about this a bit too much

Police are being accused of misusing powers granted under anti-terror legislation. Amateur and professional photographers have complained at being stopped for taking pictures of tourist destinations, well-known landmarks and a fish and chip shop. Jerome Taylor, journalist with the Independent who was stopped by police for photos of the Houses of Parliament, and Chief Constable Andy Trotter of British Transport Police and chairman of the Association of Chief Police Officers media advisory group, debate whether police are too ready to use their anti-terror powers.

OK tuned in...

I listened to it and thought what a reasoned & sensible argument Andy Trotter put forward tempered by the Indy Reporters (cannot bring to mind his name) unknowing ignorance of his rights in the matter that he was 'tied up' in.

Should we not be relying on the Police to know the law correctly ~ they have no right to request/demand ones name & details though we I understand have every right to know under law we are being challenged and know at the minimum their "badge number". But coming back to Andy Trotters remarks in the interview ~ what he said about a return to "good old fashioned policing" made a lot of real sense and dare I say commonsense. However sadly like a lot of misinformed actions the commonsense he infered should be used is neither very common or sensible as 'seen' on the street. Especially where Andy Trotter reminded 'us' that following the terrorist attacks there was the oft requested need for pictures that the public may have to help the investigations ~ er! stop & harrass togs in future and there will be no pictures to ask for if ever needed again

This whole matter does give me pause to wonder if the police tail is wagging the dog i.e. the actions of the beat PO & PCSO's are triggering this constant need for media kickback by senior officers to repeat what is "right" instead of the other way round of ensuring all officers from the top down are more fully informed as to their rights & correct usage of "stop & challenge". It has been said that we are slipping from having a Police Service to a Police State, personally I think we are very long way from the "State" but the slippage needs to be stopped now!" Doesn't it???

Have a look at this http://www.newyorker.com …207_audioslideshow_platon (external link) I heard about this on the BBC World Service last night.

Make sure you have the audio turned on and listen to Platon speaking about each image. An intriguing insight IMO into the way we see some of the world leaders? ;)

I heard it too. Both on radio and TV. A very even tempered response by Andy Trotter - I was impressed by his response.

Guys (and gals)
Can I once again please ask for 5 minutes of your time to review something...

I am creating an end of season yearbook for the 2009 Triumph Triple Challenge.
A one make motorcycle raing series that I am the official tog for.
After many discussions and changing of minds, I have gone back to my tried and tested providor.
Photobox.

What I didn't realise Is I can post the book online for viewing/ordering!

Therefore I have shared the yearbook, and would really appreciate your feedback, before I send it to the event organiser for viewing (he's not signing it off or anything, but I'd like to show him as courtesy)
I can't decide if to add text to each page or not.

Hi Rich

Looks like it should be very nice in print but if this is also targted at the casually interested person should there not be more names and race details mentioned per page??? I have no doubt those who follow the TTC will know who everyone is but for me it was just a series of nice interesting & many attention grabbing images.

HTH :)

Looks good to me! (and I'm pretty chuffed that you used one of my shots in there too). I don't think you need to add text to it, it works well for me just as a picture book.

This is what the Met put out in February which was specifically in answer to the new amendment about taking pictures of police officers. The stuff they have put out recently is good and I will get hold of a copy and post it.

At the risk of dragging up the new Counter Terrorism Act I spoke to the press department at work ( New Scotland Yard ) I they sent me the below quote and said it was okay to post here but I should not discuss it!!!!

The Met regularly meets photographers and their representatives and listen to their concerns.

Under the new legislation it will be an offence to elicit, publish or communicate information about members of the armed forces, intelligence services or police which could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

However, it is important to stress that the new offence is not intended to target or impede professional or amateur photographers, but rather to provide additional protection to front line personnel from possible terrorist attack.

Taking photographs of police officers would not - except in very exceptional circumstances - be covered by the new offence. For the new offence to be committed the information would have to raise a reasonable suspicion that it was intended to be used to provide practicable assistance to a terrorist.

Officers have been briefed on this issue and guidance on dealing with the media and photographers is available to them
