No-one had wave blocked at work yet then? I'd be very surprised if it wasn't blocked at mine seeing as most e-mail/messaging sites are already blocked.

Nope. But they don't block GMail either.

We have blocked ports and webwasher to block sites, to the loony extremes that sourceforge is blocked as file sharing, a lot of other sites where I've been hunting for help with javascripting and html/css hacks for IE6 are also blocked under the auspices of "personal/blogging sites". Blooming irritating when it's hard to find information 10 years out of date.

That's exactly why I have resisted calls for web filtering. We use a passive tracking system to identify people who abuse the system an then deal with them as needed.

Kind of. If you just block stuff, you lose intelligence. Better to see where they go and then deal with that if it is a problem. 99 times out of 100, it is casual dicking around on harmless sites in peoples lunch breaks. We police bandwidth hogging as that is an issue for us. Too complicated to describe now but happy to explain over a beeer at the next meet :)

I don't think anybody here sees Wave as a replacement for the chatter in this thread. But because Waves are restricted to those invited to them and because you can drag in Google maps and pics that everyone in that select group can see (along with weather forecasts and stuff), and because waves are persistent and you can go and check the whole discussion quickly, they can be good for UE or similarly private meets.

We now have a test Wave with over 200 messages which show that it's not more readable than following this thread. In some ways, more confusing.

I really couldn't see Wave replacing anything here. In fact, I have trouble Wave seeing replacing a lot of the online social stuff I'm in. More complementing some aspects. It's really more a collaborative planning / design tool than anything.

Anyone else wants an invite, ask away.

But I'm not planning to leave this place at all.

Bloody hell it took a while to go through everything to catch up.
Proof if ever it was needed that I'm not actually to blame in any way for the spam. :p

So anyone else want to reveal their xbox gamer tag for Call of Duty multiplayer action?

LL01773 - same as my name on here. :)

Snowing (and settling) here in Wokingham now.

And I bought a 20Gb xbox drive from eBay. Hope it comes soon.

And I've ordered a scart lead. The IQ from the standard lead is awful.

Forza 3 is huge fun though. Played with the Veyron on the Le Mans track and boy does it fly!

Forza 3 is fantastic. Wait until you really get deeper into it.

Ok, im kind of stealing Lee's idea here, but im going to go to Richmond Park on friday morning to try and capture the dear & snow whilst it is still "clean". There will probably be a pub lunch to follow :D

Does anyone fancy coming along?

What kind of time were you thinking about heading out Rob? Unless you have changed your mind.

And finally, Pete, I agree with the majority that you will regret selling your gear and your photos really aren't as bad as you seem to think. We're all our own harshest critics and as others said, we all get into a rut occasionally.

No sense and unfortunately not enough money.

I was thinking of getting there for about 8am. Any earlier would be a waste as the light would be very poor and the last time we were there the deer were very inactive until around 9am anyway.
Let me know if you fancy it.

I thik the only way you are going to beat the distortions is by going for a prime

I join Rob in saying that the thread is fine as it is.

The problem with taking the "chatter" off POTN is that it takes away potentially useful information from POTN (and the rest of us who aren't on these other sub-waves of communication lose out). There's also the fact that if the discussion starts getting technical, then it's very unlikely that it will move back to POTN.

Yes, the thread moves quite quickly, but it doesn't really matter if people don't catch up religiously (it's a bit like watching a soap on the telly, I guess).

Lastly, the community spirit here is the reason why many of us like to be here. Take the heart out of that community, then it won't be such a fun place to be.

Just my opinion.

+1. We've all built something great here.
