Well, there were good bits...

1) Jenson Button in the reasonably sized car (lap was a bit unimpressive, but the interview was ok)
2) British car (with Volvo C90 engine) beats pretty much everything else on the leaderboard.
3) The special paint on the Red Bull F1 car wasn't a set up. Teams actually do that during circuit practice laps so that they're able to examine aerodynamics back in the garage after the session (they turn the lights out and put on black lights). Since mid-season technical testing is now banned, the teams use this as a sneaky way of testing changes in the aero kit.

Yeah they were the highlights of the show so pretty poor tbh ..

Dom, how did manage to get shot?

Northern Ireland in '89 they gave us the good news from across the border so we couldn't return fire but it was part of the job back then much safer than what the lads have to do now.

Just popping my head in to post a shot or two of the winter wonderland I walked in today - in Surrey!!

...

Sorry I haven't been on here more! Hope you're keeping well .... although from a brief glance at Mark's post it seems we have some walking wounded amongst us? ;)

Festive greetings to you all - not long to go now! :D

David

Lovely shots, David. Nice to see you popping in every now and again :)

Hope all is going well folks! I'm enjoying my time back in Canada, not nearly as cold as it's been in the previous weeks for which I'm thankful for.

Haven't had much chance to take photos, but should get a few in next week when I'm back in my home town. Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

I bet you've got more snow than us :)

@ David ~ it was worth the effort to get out, very nice images. Where were they taken???

@ Matt ~ that is a lot of running around bearing in mind the strife on the roads at the moment, as they used to say on Hill Street Blues ~ be careful out there.

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Nothing I know of, photography-wise. I do have a cake competition coming up, yummy yummy yummy :) The wife is baking, I'll be tasting :)

Anyone got anything planned for the coming week?

Im going up to West Yorkshire tomorrow and then coming back Sunday :)

Anke wrote in post #9234651 (external link)
Sure you can. As it won't be an intensive photo session anyone regardless of skill or even owning a camera can walk along. It's only a couple of hours so he won't be bored.

Cool. Ill ask him later today if he wants to come.

I'm only in Hildenborough and could explore this club as a guest.

Ooo that looks cool, its not too far from me (probs take me about 20 mins to get there)
I might pop along after christmas and see what its like.

I bet he does, but only because I'm not in Canada as well.

My wife is Canadian. and for about 8 months, I used to travel to Toronto once or twice (often twice) a month on week-ends to go see her until she moved here.

Would you believe that all the time I was there (and that included winter), I once got about 4 - 5 inches of snow and maybe one or 2 light dustings?

I'm now thinking that this Canada snow thing is way overhyped. :p

Right, that's the 24-70 sold.

Any recommendations for a cheapish walkaround? Same kind of focal length would be fine.

Was listening to the latest SqueezeTheLime podcast last night and they had a segment on what they would by now if they were starting out as pros again. One recommended the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 as having slightly better IQ than the 24-70L, though slightly slower focusing especially in lower light.

Eeep, my old man was in NI in the 70s, "highlights" were being shot in the leg and watching a lot of his mates blown up by IEDs. He doesn't talk about it much, but it gives you an idea of what the guys must be facing in Afghanistan/Iraq when he does.

On the back subject, I managed to displace 5 vertebre as a teenager doing Tug-of-War. Went to my girlfriends house after the competition feeling no pain, after a few hours I couldn't move without screaming. Had to call my mum who picked me up and my mum and girlfriend had to carry me to the car as I couldn't move myself. Emergency visit to a chiropractor the next morning made me feel much better. Killed my Tug-of-War career, as much as you can have a career in amateur sports.
