Im glad Neal wasnt gettin the train this week. Am still rather worried if he has made it home

Yes, a tad. Try bouncing the light off the ceiling for a more pleasing light. Naturally light comes from above so if you bounce the flash off the ceiling then the shadows we naturally see on the face will be in the right places, i.e. under the nose and chin. I find that going into manual mode (on the camera) brings the best results.
