As a dyed in the wool cynic the VAT increase could be treated in one of two diametric opposite ways.

a) The shops do not implement the increase in the prices i.e. they squeeze their already tight margins to chase the turnover and please all upcoming potential buyers :)

b) They make the increase but (cynical mode on) the listed price inclusive of VAT goes up by 2.5% i.e. the VAT element has actually on paper gone up by more than 2.5% :( A hidden price increase, now where is my calculator ;)

Now putting my logical hat back on ~ I wish I could increase prices to my B2B customers as the pips have been squeeking for ages  Having said that everything my customers make ends up in the high street ~ did someone say I could not have my cake & eat it ??? ;) But with Canon items we are talking about "high ticket items" that are imported, which is different to my market sector.

Brown and Darling were slaughtered in the press for the 2.5% VAT drop. "Such a small decrease won't boost sales but will cost billions in lost tax revenue" was pretty much the headline in all the decent papers (and I have to say I did agree). So now, I am somewhat bemused by all the fuss in the same papers telling us to get out and buy stuff before the VAT goes back up. Surely, if it made no difference comming down, it going back up should have the same effect?

Yes, I recall that and overall the "high street" has reported a poor year overall so a drop of 2.5% made damn all difference but an increase......well we shall see that is why I have an element of optimism that market forces will keep prices at current levels for high ticket products.....but if Canon do hike the base prices by 5-7% well I will be watching that psace over the next few months???

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Some really nice shots in there, very inventive.

Shame that events conspired to prevent me attending (I was on the other side of the M25 with my in-laws)

That's my evening planned out.
Chicken Jalfrezi and a nice bottle of Cava chilling in the fridge.
I wager neither will make it to midnight:D

In fact neither may make 8 O'clock

It rained incessantly, think yourself lucky.

It was lovely to walk around with non-photographers and see the way they take pictures and see the world. No gear obsessives there that day :D
