7D images @ ISO 6400 & 12800

here are a couple of test images with in-camera High ISO Noise reduction set to standard - in post raw (ACR beta) - noise reduction - sharpening - color

I'm happy with the results - YMMV

ISO 6400

Don't mean to be a downer, but I don't think these results are completely representative of what one would normally get at ISO6400 or ISO12800. Typically when one would go as high as 6400 or 12800, you're not going to have so much light that you're getting 1/800 or 1/1250 shutter speeds...and the amount of light will affect the noise level. Bumping the ISO in decent light just for the heck of it is a little different than bumping the ISO because you absolutely need to get more shutter speed in marginal light.

Most, if not all, these band shots were done at ISO 6400 with some PP obviously. I had to shoot at this speed to catch the flags as best I could, it was rainy and dark, competition was moved to a back parking lot with just the normal parking light lots at the school, not the best condition at all. These results are actually quite typical. High ISO is definitely one of the strong suits of the 7D!

One of my favs from the evening shoot.

That's a pretty silly thing to say considering he's shooting football at night...

You're talking about 1/200s or 1/160s at ISO 1600. I'd call that marginal light. You wouldn't get many keepers shooting football at 1/200s, even 1/400s or 1/500s is borderline for football.

Typicially at this stadium I'm at ISO 3200 about 1/600 at the light supports and about 1.5 stops darken in the end zones.

I shot the images just as the game was ending as a try-out.
