Hey all,
I've had my 5D2 for about a week now, and after playing around with the video, I have realized that I have no control over the aperture, during video!

I set my aperture to [for example] f/1.8, then press "Set" to start recording, then it throws my aperture down to like f/4.0 or something that IT chooses.
Wasn't there a firmware update, to unlock manual aperture controls? I have firmware 1.1.0 which is the latest (as far as I know).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not that I have any 5D Mark II, but I have the better equipped (when it comes to video) 7D, and there it works, provided you set the mode dial to M. Av doesn't work for what you want to do.

Now I am a 5DII user that has never used movie mode, but....

That firmware is not out yet and is not scheduled for release until after first of the year.

That's actually not true. They are doing a firmware update next year, but they have already released one to allow for manual exposure controls for video.

With the 5DII you have to go into M mode if you want manual control over the aperture. Av mode is basically an auto mode that just gives you EC control.

It sounds like you don't have your "Screen Settings" set to "Movie Display"

So if you go into the menu, select:
Live View/Movie func set. --> LV func set --> Stills + Movie --> Movie Display

That should allow you to set the exposure manually. And as said, you have to be in M mode.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah, my problem was that my "Screen Settings" or w\e, was set to exposure simulation (or however they word it).
Thanks again!
