Difference in memory cards

Question:

Is there a noticeable difference between the low cost Transcend type CF memory sticks and the high cost high speed versions such as Scandisk Extreme VI in terms of speed or picture quality when used with a Canon 40D camera?

There's no change in image quality from card to card... the reliability of the card may or may not corrupt an image, but that's a little different
as for speed, yes, various cards will reach different speeds on the 40D... take a look:
