I have finally finished my user review of the 7D. It has taken much longer than I originally anticipated due to various factors. Those who have had my previous reviews on the 40D and 50D will know my style of review. I hope it will help those still on the fence.

It's wonderful for studio/portrait but limited for action.

Nice presentation and well-balanced evaluation.

Good review.. Thanks.

Just wondering .. what firmware was the 7d on .. as I recall there was an issue with focusing in the earlier production pieces.

rolandlim, great article.

If your interested search for the word "log" in the article and change it to "logo".

Excellent work Roland. I really like the 7D to 5DII comparison. I cannot get over the sharpness difference. It looks like the 7D is out of focus.

Thanks for the great effort. It is well done and I can tell that a lot of work went into the project. The review help to clarify a couple fine points that I had not investigated yet such as the information about the +/- 5 stops of EC.

The only qualm that I would have relates to the image sharpness comparison between the 7D and 5D Mark II. Although it appears that many, if not most, people subscribe to the multiplication factor argument about smaller sensors, I feel that the "multipliplication factor" is based on some shaky assumptions such as printing all image on the same size paper. In any case, however, comparing sharpness of sensors of different size and photodiode density results in a situation like trying to compare apples and oranges so I won't criticize your effort towards being equitable -- it is somewhat of a "no-win" situation if trying to please everybody.

If I were to try to make a comparison (which I won't do), I would have ignored the sensor size and then normalized photodiode density in equal sized areas of the two sensors. Since the 5D has a lower photodiode density than the 7D, that means that I would have scaled down the 7D so that a monitor screen pixel represents the same area for both sensors. I am just speculating, but I have a definite feeling that doing things this way would reveal that there is very little or no difference to be found. Image sharpness is primarily a lens function and secondly it is a function of the demosaicing algorithm which should inherently handle the slight loss of sharpness introduced by the anti aliasing filter.

Not to be nitpicky, but you refer to the buttons on the 50D being along the 'button', perhaps you mean bottom.

Good work!
