Ok i give up. i have been trying to calibrate my Dell 30" LCD for like a month now and i can't stand the results that i am getting!! for some reason, the calibration makes the screen super dark and the colors seems a bit off which makes the monitor unusable for anything BUT photo editing and even then the printing is a bit off in color. in comparison, i have a dell 20" right next to it and the color is amazing without any calibration and the print is super accurate.

when i use the 30" at default witout any calibration, it is a bit too bright but it seems like the colors are actually much better and it is alot better to work on.

at this point, i really don't know what to do. do i just throw the spyder away and work uncalibrated? i already tried everything from different settings, different lighting, no lighting, manual adjustments, etc..

HELP!

YES... Actually I can offer to recycle it for you here in New Mexico. I'll pay the shipping and handling cost! ;)

But if you decide to keep it...

Which Spyder3 version is it?
Which model Dell 30" is it?
What settings are you using, both in the Spyder software and the monitor controls?

hehe, i will keep you in mind if i decide to punt it :)

the sypder 3 i am using is the studio version. the monitor is the Dell 3007FPW-HC. as for the settings, the screen itself only has brightness so that is left on the default. in the spyder software, i use gamma 2.2 6500k but i tried it with native and pretty much anything else you can think of :(

just to add, this is the 3rd Dell monitor that i am working on. the first one was (still is) the Dell 2007WFP which is simply amazing. then i added the 2407WFP-HC which i also couldn't calibrate at all so maybe it is a problem with the Dell monitors and i should just live with it :(

OK... I've read about this monitor and seen many forum posts on the web asking for help in calibrating it. I know it doesn't have Contrast or RGB controls. But it IS a very good IPS display panel.

The tests I've read state that at 0% Brightness, the luminance value is about 110cd/m2, very good for photo editing, but running the Brightness down to 0 often results in color problems elsewhere. About 5% Brightness is reported to be at about 140cd/m2, a good compromise level for a slightly dim or normally lit room.

With the included Spyder3 Elite software, I would make sure the software is set for no controls other than a backlight (your Brightness). Reset all factory defaults on the monitor and video card. Lower the Brightness to 5%. Calibrate with Native color temperature, 2.2 gamma.

Here's an alternative solution... This Dell is one of the few DDC capable models that works with ColorEyes calibration software. Download the free trial of ColorEyes Display Pro and use it with your Spyder3 puck. The DDC will allow you to adjust the display via the software. I've read a couple reports of calibrating the 3007wfp with CEDP with good results.
