Hey everyone. Well sorry if this in the wrong spot, I figured it was general enough. Well tonight I was out with my 5D and 24-70 and I noticed spots on my photos. Below are some of the images with a weird pattern on them directed by the arrow. I have used the lens for roughly 2 months with no spots showing like this on my XSi. Tonight was my first real time using the lens on my 5D. I am seeing these spots and cant figure out what they would be, they are consistent spots in 90% of the photos.

I did find one small hair on the side of the front element and a tiny dust spot on the rear element. Does the 5D utilize this much of the lens that a hair or dust spot shows at the edge of the glass? I am curious to learn and take care of my new gear. The spots are very distracting and frustrating. What could it be?

Looks like you have some lint on your sensor - no big deal - just clean 'er up.

+1

Take a look at the guides for cleaning your sensor before attempting to do so as you can ruin your camera if you improperly clean it.

Thanks guys. I took a look at the sensor and saw something ever so slight. I tried to blow it off ,but did not seem to help. Looks like its moisture based. I had contacted a professor at my university who has told me that he is more than happy to help and teach me. He is a photojournalist teacher with 30+ years as a photographer, I am going to trust him before I trust myself :)

Don't blow on the sensor with your mouth or you may get moisture in there. If you have a rocket blower, use that and it should come off.

Here's a good overview of sensor cleaning: http://www.cleaningdigitalcameras.com/ (external link)

and here's a good tutorial:

I use the Copperhill kit for wet cleaning.

How can it be random if it is every shot?

Shouldn't it be a persistent spot? ;)

Haha I will give you that one. I mean I have seen dots and dark spots, but nothing like the "random" spot I was seeing. I will be getting my sensor cleaned by a professor here at school. It shall be a nice learning experience.
