Here's on a friend playing bass at homecoming. First time shooting low-light too. As always, C&C are very much appreciated.

I would of preferred if it were brighter and less ambient light, though not too much brighter

He really needs to learn to play without looking at his fretboard (spoken as a bassist....). Nice pic, though.

Mmmm, not really, there are some guitarists who love playing bass or guitars, whilst looking at them, I can only think of one, but he doesn't do that anymore (i.e. used to do it)

The quality of the photo was overshadowed by the quality of this doublespeak:

1) no, he does not really need to learn to play without looking at his fretboard. [ah, okay, it would seem to me that being able to play while looking at the audience, at least here and there, would make the performance more enjoyable ... but yeah, sure, no one can force him to improve on his performance by jove, this is America ... so no he ain't ... stand up for his rights to be limited gosh darn it ... lol]

2) There are guitarists who love to play bass or guitar while looking at the fretboard [as if they would hate to play without looking at the fretboard ... they just love looking at a fretboard for twenty, thirty, plus minutes .... I mean who would want to look up and catch the reaction of the crowd or band mates to feed off of when you can stare at good wood ... lol ... hint: yes, it could be said they stare at the fretboard because they are really concentrating, but presumably because they can't play as good, thus, it would be an added skill, improvement, if they would ... except for 1 or that they really do enjoy staring at their fretboard as you lovingly state such fetish here :D

3) After all that defiance to not have to improve one's performance skills and assertion of the lovely fetish that certain guitarists have for fretboards ... turns out you only know one such artist and the bassist in question doesn't anymore ... lolllllllllllllll ... that's hilarious. That whole crazy reply and explanation when you simply could have said, "Well, he no longer does so anymore!" Great stuff.]

I think it is a very nice shot. The lighting is nice and even.

As for the fretboard controversy. Give the guy a break. Even the best guitarists resort to looking at the fretboard when a phrase is particularly cumbersome. When the phrasing is easy, then you can interact with your bandmates and the audience. When you are marching ants, you look at the fretboard often, when you are working on brown-eyed girl, you can put all your attention on your bandmates and the audience.
