50D: further price drop?

Hello everyone. I need some advice from the experts/novices and everyone in between. Although I have read great reviews for the new 7D, I have decided to go for the 50D instead, since my budget also included the 24-105 L lens. As my first dSLR, it should keep me plenty busy? My question is: does anyone expect prices for the 50D to drop even more in the next 4 weeks? Major online retailers have it priced between $960-980 with shipping. I know that typically prices for cameras are reduced around Thanksgiving Day during black friday and cyber monday, but they usually seem to include the P&S and not higher end cameras. What do you guys think? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

If you don't mind used, you can get a 50D body for about $800.

If your time horizon is 4 weeks, don't expect drastic changes or sales. I am planning to wait 'til after 1/1 (my funding issue).

Perhaps the next big change in price will be when/IF the 60D arrives on the scene.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The graph was helpful. I guess the major event that may cause a substantial price drop would be the release of the 60D. I would not expect the release to occur before the Christmas holiday, to get more 50Ds and 7Ds off the shelves. On average Canon has waited approximately 18 mos. between each xxD release, which would put the speculated release of the 60D at the beginning of next year. That is unless the release of the 7D may postpone it even more.

In the end, I have to decide if the the extra $20 off or so in the next 4 weeks is worth the wait. Ever-changing technology, you can't live with it and you can't live without it
