So, taking the advice from my previous football post, I tried more shooting directly towards the sun to backlight the players. However, I'm thinking this was more harm than good because of the shape of the lens hood on my Sigma lens. I shoot about 98% portrait orientation with football, and when in that orientation the lens hood doesn't stick out as far. I think this allowed some significant flaring to occur on the lower portions of my photos.
