What are your favorite combinations of lenses to put in your bag when you head out the door?

When I pack my camera bag, I never take all my lenses. I usually mix and match two or three lenses that will handle different complementary tasks.

For full-frame, there are classic combinations like:

Prime Trinity: 35L, 85L, 135L
Zoom Trinity: 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 f/2.8

Some of my other favorite combinations (and my nicknames for them) are:

Solo Prime: 35L
Compact Duo: 35 f/2, 85 f/1.8
Creativity Pack: 24 TS-E, 50 f/1.4, 100L Macro
Night and Day: 35L, 85L, 24-105
All Bases Covered: 16-35, 50 f/1.4, 100-400
Dually: 24-70, 135L
Hiking Kit: 24L, 70-200 f/4

What other combinations do people find work well together?

For crop, I like my travel set up of 10-22, 35L, 70-200 f/4 L IS

Good coverage, great IQ, packs small, relatively lightweight, and gives me at least one solid option for low light environments w/o flash.

I guess this is similar to your "All Bases Covered" set up.

For a crop:
if indoors the 24 and 50 primes.
If outdoors, and only want to bring two lens, leave one of the primes behind and take the 70-200 f4 is.

EFS 17-55 is on my camera most of the time and the EFS 10-22 in the bag so that would be my go to duo. I use the 10-22 a lot for construction photography. I'll add the 70-200 f/2.8 if I think I might need a bit of reach.

Currently I have only one lens so I cover most bases with it :p

PS if I had a choice:

travel kit: 17-40L/16-35L and 70-200L/135mm L
solo prime: 21mm Zeiss or 35mm L

Depends on what I'm shooting. Low light, 85L and 70-200 2.8. Much light, 24-105L and 100-400L... and the 85L :)

Getting a 35L this week, That may change things...

When I had a crop camera, my favorite travelling combo was the Canon 17-55mm & Canon 55-250mm. Now with full frame cameras my travelling combo is the Canon 24-85mm & Canon 70-300mm DO. If I need a low light lens I just bring along one of the f1.2s.

I seldom get away with just 3 lenses, but when I do, it comes down to "what my shooting range needs to cover?" (Question 1), and "what prime needs to be in the bag?" (Question 2). Both questions need to be satisfied.

If the answer to Question 1 is long distance (i.e. Tele required), the 70-200 f/4L IS is the first thing in the bag, followed by the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. The answer to Question 2 is generally going to be some fisheye in these instances... so either the Peleng 8mm f/3.5 or the Vivitar Series 1 7mm f/3.5

If the answer to Question 1 is tight quarters (i.e. Tele is out of the question), the 11-16mm f/2.8 is in the bag, followed by the 17-55 f/2.8 IS. The anwer to Question 2 is generally going to be a fast 50-58 (either the Canon 50/1.4 or the Pentax 50/1.2, or the Zeiss Biotar 2/58) in these situations, but sometimes I'll opt for a fisheye.

Usually though, I pack 11-16 f/2.8, 17-55 f/2.8 IS, 70-200 f/4L IS, 50/1.2, and both fisheyes, plus 1 flash. Only when I know I'll be in a place where gear is restricted due to imposed limitations such as lens "size"/length, amount of lenses, size of bag, etc. do I really pack lighter than that.

When shooting with my 20D, I almost always have all of my EF lenses with me. They include Canon's 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200.
