Went out today with my 70-200 L, and saw this little guy at a feeder. I'm very new at the digital photagraphy world, any CC would be welcome.

Are you using the IS version or not?

The bird looks a little soft, and I'm not 100% sure on the crop. Did you capture the top of the feeder? if so I'd probably go a little more traditional on a 6x4 or something. Also, have you post processed it at all? If not, an unsharpen mask in photoshop might help a bit but it looks like the focus was squared on the feeder a little too much and not the birdy.

Still.. It's a nice picture :) and I love the angle the bird is giving you. Unusual to say the least.

I went back and looked, the focus was square on its head. It might have been my poor editting skills. I don't know if the exif is intact, but it was shot at iso 100, 200mm IS, Tv 1/500, Av 2.8, out of a 10D. maybe should of went to Av 4.0?

I am currently relegated to using DPP as I don't have PS, yet. I'm not crazy about the crop either, just trying to work my way around DPP, and the processing and all.

Thanks for the CC though, I appreciate it. Is there a way in here to go back, edit my original post to include the original photo?

At the bottom you should see an edit button next to "quote" etc

I probably would have stopped down to 4 or so.. probably would have helped bring more bird.

Welcome to POTN. Yes, using a larger aperture would have given you more depth of field (more would have been in focus). At f2.8, only a very small part of the shot will be in focus.

LOL, the problem was the size of the file. Any suggestions for maintaing quality with the decreases size?

I guess I was so excited to have the 2.8 that I just shot everything with it, LOL. I also forgot to change the WB and was shooting AWB.

Hey, I'm learning every day.

Thanks for the help.
