Anyone know of a well written book, with some pictures, about how to start using Raw?
I've used Photoshop for years, but want to begin using RAW, for obvious benefits.

Thanks for any info.

The book I like the best is Scott Kelby's 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3 (external link). Each chapter is a lesson where you work on a Raw image (downloaded from his website) from start to finish. Don't be thrown by the "CS3" part if you use CS4... The book is NOT out of date!

Kelby has a number of good books -- the above mentioned by Chas as well as books dedicated to Adobe Camera Raw and to Lightroom. Also Martin Evening has a similar line of books.

Although these books are Adobe-specific, and specific to Camera Raw and/or Lightroom, you really can get a lot of insight into the Raw workflow from them and both of these authors build on years of work in this area and incorporate numerous revisions from past versions so you get a lot of background.

I've picked up plenty of other books along the way that may highlight one thing or another, but the Kelby and Evening series both are pretty good overall.

Also, there are internet resources that have good tutorials -- Kelby heads an organization that is full of stuff (NAPP) including a site, lightroomkillertips.com, that is rich with tutorials. Check it out as well.

Famous wildlife photographer Andy Rouse has written a book (external link)on raw processing aimed at the novice. It's pretty good.

Luminous Landscape site has a great video tutorial series by Jeff Schewe and Michael Richmann on Lightroom that naturally deals with all the various modules.

Lightroom is a management and photo processing system built around the same Adobe RAW conversion engine that front ends CS3, etc.
