I honestly don't think it matters one way or the other. Go with the SanDisk 'cuz they're kind of the industry standard.

I use These Transcend cards (external link) for weddings, complete with error detection and correction that only the high end Sandisk cards have. I don't much care how long they take to download, and I haven't timed any of my cards.

I have been using Transcend cards for > 1 year and 15k images without a problem. I did buy a couple of the new Sandisk 60 cards a month ago and used them on my trip....only because I got them for a much cheaper price than I could the latest Transcend 400x.

Roy,

I dont know if you have seen the SevenDayShop (Google) but they are great. The Transcend 133x 8gb cards are £17.99, £2 cheaper than the Sandisk Ultra cards which I suspect are about the same. I have 6 of the Transcend cards currently (all the ones mentioned because they were such a good deal) and really like them.

Yes, thanks Rowan, I do know 7dayshop and I have used them on a few occasions. In fact, when I said in a previous post that 'I notice that the prices between the Transcend 8gb and the Sandisk Ultra II 8gB are more or less the same', it was the 7dayshop prices I was thinking of. My thoughts were - is it better to get the well-known Sandisk for another £2?

Personally, no. All those £2 will buy you something one day, Sandisk is only brand like Transcend, no real risk to either. Save your £2 and buy Transcend. I don't know if you are a member of Fredmiranda but Lars Johnsson (a well known member) has like 100's GB of compactflash and a high quantity of his are Transcend and other so-called cheapo brands.

I've also been using Transcend cards the last couple of years.

Firstly I had 2 8GB 133X ones that had no problems whatsoever on my 400D. I got the 7D and they worked fine on that too until I decided I needed a faster card to use the 7D's burst mode and so I got a 16GB 300X which is now my main card, the older ones I'll keep as spares.

My wife also has a Transcend 8GB SDHC for her 450D, again no problems. Hell, I even have a Transcend Card Reader and Micro SD card for my cellphone.

As a brand I think it's pretty mainstream and trustworthy. The slower 8GB cards are so cheap (what, about $25?!?!) you can't go wrong. The faster ones are not such good value but perhaps slightly cheaper than SanDisk.

Just seen this thread and had to post my experience.
I bought an 8 GB card and took about 750 shots from 2 birthday parties in July.
When I got home to view them the first time, the computer couldnt read the card. I removed the card and reinstalled it, and was able to view about 150 shots.
So I thought I'd better save them and did.
Then I removed and replaced the card again, and nothing, no card inserted?
I tried to rescue the data but to no avail.
I called Transcend and they asked me to send them the card in California, to see if they could rescue the pictures.
I sent it registered mail, July 21 from Canada ($8.00)
3 months later (after many emails and phone calls asking what is happeneing to my card), they sent me a link to download my pictures.
I was very excited and couldnt wait to give the pics to my friends whose 2 birthday parties I shot.
GUESS WHAT?
After 1 hour of downloading 2 huge files.
Only the 150 pictures that I had originally saved, were there.
The rest never came back.
The whole experience was awful and their customer support was terrible.
And their manager said he would mail me a new Compact Flash card, and i'm Still Waiting!
Thanks Andy!

I would give them points for trying. I'm sure any other manufacturer would just say, we're real sorry but there is nothing we can do other than replace the card.

I recently read that the cheaper Transcend cards are MLC memory, the 300X cards are SLC. SLC is meant to be a lot more reliable - 1 million writes vs 1,000 for MLC. Transcend have error correction though, so you'd have better luck with them than other cards.

Next time I buy cards they'll be the faster SLC transcend cards, but the ones I have and linked to are working fine so i'll keep them for a couple of years at least.

8GB 600x cards (external link) it's like 150.00 CAD imagine having that fail on you in a critical moment. I'd like to buy one and test it almost since I am in a position where I can warranty the card with Transcend and recover my costs by returning the card to my business (I own a computer store) and then use it in shop somewhere.

I had one file go bad on a transcend card. I only use it for product photos where I down load pics before I change my setup. Don't trust it.
