Rene : just to clarify (and thanks for being so helpful!!)
1. Import to Lighroom, twiddle the exposure/etc etc. Export as JPEG.
2. Open with GIMP. Convert to sRGB Working Space if necessary. Make alterations.
3. Print-preview (proof) with their profile and convert a copy to it if all looks good, otherwise repeat the last part of Step 2. This way I have one sRGB image for web and another one for the printer.
4. Open with OSX Preview and re-examine with both sRGB and their profile (web and print are sorted!).
5. Send it for printing. Await disappointment. Emigrate to Canada.
