How is the 1DSIII at higher ISO's? Same as or better than the 1DIII?

I don't own a 1Ds3, so what I say is only 2nd hand, but from what I've gathered the 1Ds3 has somewhat more noise than the 1D3. This wuld make sense, in that they are the same generation and the 1D3 has a lower pixel density (the ff equivalent to the 1D3 in terms of pixel density would be 16MB). The 5D2 has improved on this, of course, but I don't hesitate to grab the 1D3 in low light. Plus, the 1Ds3 doesn't give you the option of going as high in ISO as the 1D3 -- I think it may be limited to ISO 1600 there, but I may be wrong. The 1D3 performs quite well at ISO 3200.

I too believe this is all correct...

Guess we all have to wait for the 1DsMkIV so we can have ISO Brazillion and One!

The 1Dmk3 is an amazing body as Jay says....But at higher ISO's the 1Dsmk3 shows more noise...It still has more detail than the 1Dmk3, but it's just noisier....I think even your 5Dc might handle noise better...Maybe....

Edit: I never owned a 1Dsmk3 either but got the chance to shoot one for 2 weeks.....Also....looks like my post is redundant, I type too slow...:)

And....The 1Dsmk3 does go to 3200 but it's not native.

Some of the venues I shoot in are quite dark. I find my SS on the 5D to be getting dangerously low at ISO 1000 and I'm afraid to push it to 1600.

What I love about the 5Dmk2 is that I'm ok up to 3200 but sometimes am afraid to push it to 6400.
Too bad it doesn't have 1Ds AF

Personally, I think the sum total of SMWYG entries would make a helluva Blurb Book all on its own.

It would be as eclectic as all get out but beyond that, it'd be a stunner!

Well, I shoot the 5DC at 1600 with pretty good confidence -- it's better to shoot at 1600 than to underexpose at 800 or 1000 or whatever (better noise performance).

The 1D3 I think gets a bit better noise performance than the 5D at higher ISOs, and I believe that 3200 is "native" for the 1D3, which means it will do better at 3200 than it will "pushed" at 1600. I've gotten some very usable shots at 3200 with the 1D3 -- not noise-free, of course, but if properly exposed and not cropped at 100% the noise on both the 5D and the 1D3 is not much of a factor even at 3200. I even have shots taken at "High" (pushed 3200 to 6400 in-camera) with the 1D3 that may not compete for an award, but don't hurt the eyes.

Cream of the Crop, unless you say something that attracts the TF's attention.

I guess I need to remember that I am the second, not the primary. Maybe the 1DIII is the way to go and just keep the 5D I have and sell off the 40D.

Well, it wasn't all that long ago that the 5DC and the 1D3 were considered a "dream combo" that gave superior results in just about every conceivable situation.

'Course now our aging 5DC still puts out amazing images, but is feeling a bit neglected as everyone is rushing out to play with the "new kids"...now the 1D will be updated -- I can't wait to here comments like "I just shot with the 1D4 and boy, it makes the 1D3 look like crap!"...

Nope. I didn't offer one.

They did pull the images off my facebook and put them on theirs.

It's no biggie. I'm happy with the images. Good portfolio stuff.

She was such a doll.

LOL, some day they'll wish they had prints. I know that I wish I had more photos from when my kids were babies. And just wait till they try to get prints from their facebook files......

Gorgeous shot, btw.

As a 1d Mk 3 owner, My one complaint is the 1.3x crop factor. Even though it is a nice middle ground between FF and 1.6x, it is alone in its class. The wide angle lenses (for me) aren't wide enough and it isn't compatible with the EF-S lenses. I think my next camera purchase will probably be FF.
Does anyone with a 5d II have problems with the shutter lag for action shots.

That's not even a beef I have with the 5D classic.
