I understand the Canon bodies able to microadjust are able to identify the Canon lenses and to keep in memory the data of a number of individual lenses (Identified by their type and serial number if I'm right?)

Now, are these bodies able to ID a non Canon lens and, more importantly, to keep in memory their adjustment data as for any regular Canon lens?

Thanks in advance.

Gerard

My wordy they do.. On my 50D atleast..

Irrespective of what lens you adjust,,the data will be stored in the camera..

My 50D has had zero problems recognizing and saving data for Tamrons and Sigmas.

Thanks guys.

For the sake of curiosity, any techie could say how the body can communicate with the lens (non Canon)? Do the makers build them so they are identified by the Canon bodies? Copying the system Canon uses for its own bodies and lenses?

The lens communicates information with the micro adjust the same way it communicates information with the auto focus. Since the motor for auto focus is built into the lens, the camera has to know the focal length/focus system the lens uses to accurately adjust focus. It's just a (tiny) chip in the lens telling the camera what it is.
